ToddMMA - Sengoku '11th Battle' Post War!

What a GREAT weekend fo' Mixed Martial Arts. We had the best card of the year with Strikeforce's "Fedor vs Rogers" (on CBS fo free!), and Sengoku's '11th Battle' tearin' shit up at 2 in the mornin' US time!

Gotta give a shoutout to my friends at Justin.tv who was chattin with me in the wee hours of the mornin' while we watched Sengoku live. Those dudes is a crack up, and added a whole different element to online MMA!

Movin on! Sengoku's fight card on paper looked to be around a 6 oh 7 on a scale of 1-10, but the way they ref the fights in Japan you better come to fight oh take yo ass home. And that's what everybody did... fight! You think those dude's want a yellow card? Hello no! That's 10% of they purse (bread fo' the urban folk.)

Dave Herman vs Jim York

Dave Herman straight up came out lookin' like a wet noodle on the standup, and Mr York made him pay quick. The only thing Herman had going fo' him was his wrestling, and thanks to his lucky stars Jim York fell into that game via a couple stupid mistakes. Quick story short man, York tried to go fo a foot hold while Herman was on his back and ended up getting KO'd with heels to the face while tryin to aplly the maneuver. Really sucked because York was puttin down a beating on Herman.

On a side note Cecil Peoples immediately gave Herman a 10-8 round fo comin' out to Boy George, "Do You Really Wanna Hurt Me". HEHEH! Just kidding... about the Cecil Peoples part. Pee Wee really came out to that song, and was flamed in the chat... No pun intended.

Marlon Sandro vs Yuji Hoshino

Sandro got a VERY solid standup, and made quick work of Yoshino via K to the O! He improved his record to 15 and 1, and is a definite rising talent in the MMA game. Look fo' him to make big waves in the Featherweight division. Brazilian dudes with standup equal... next generation of MMA.

Akihiro Gono vs Yoon Young Kim

Young Kim's entrance was a Top Ramen fest! Serious. Dude was tossing out packets of microwavable Top Ramen to the crowd. I think he was really tryin to make an impression on the judges because Gono laid down a beating in his first fight since bein KO'd by Dan Hornbuckle.

Gono came out really hesitant, I should note. It really seemed like that KO was still on his mind, and it took like 2 minutes fo him to get warmed up. His entrance was also, non-extravagant which is unlike Akihiro, but he was all business in the ring. His post fight speech was in English too. Dude speaks English!

Stanislav Nedkov vs Kevin Randleman

This fight was a snooze fest in ways. Kevin Randleman has lost a lot of "explosivity", and Nedkov seemed to be fightin' not to lose. I gave Randleman the first round, but you could easily say Nedkov won the last to via "I lay on you long time until decision." Both fighters were givin' Yellow cards, and were threatened with Red cards. The threats did nothin fo' Nedkov's gas tank. That dude was gassed halfway through the second round.

Nedkov ended up takin a split decision. Nedkov is a fighter to look out fo, but his 8-0 record is very deceiving. I think any top 10 light heavyweight could get him within a round.

Jorge Masvidal vs Satoru Kitaoko

Kitaoko is a walking pokemon man! He was smiling all the way to the ring throughout his whole entrance. I never seen a fighter mo happy to go into a fight than this Kitaoko.

Seein' how he was so happy I think he really underestimated Masvidal because I havn't seen such a beating since Enson Inoue vs Igor Vovchanchyn. Watchin Satoru get beat down made me want to take an ibuprofen with some whiskey, and about 5min. of heavy breathing techniques!

Kitaoko is a trooper though. He took everything, the kitchen sink, and the laundry basket befo' Masvidal turned that smile upside down and got the KO in round two.

C'mon man! Jorge a former backyard brawler with Kimbo. If you gonna fight him you better submit him because you in fo' a fist fiesta if you don't!

Jorge went on to improve his record to 17 and 4 and is a force to be reckoned with in the lightweight division.

Jorge Santiago vs Mamed Khalidov

The fight everybody on live stream was waitin' fo!!! Man durin the couple snooze fests of Sengoku everybody took the time to elaborate on they anticipation of the Santiago, Khalidov fight. I won't lie. I called the fight fo' Khalidov via KO 2:32 sec into the first round. I was off by 14 sec, but that's cool. Got all the Justin.tv chatters as my witness.

Jorge Santiago came out looking good. He even got Khalidov to the ground, but Khalidov a big, strong, quick guy who's hard to keep on his back and it was the transition from the ground to the stand up where Santiago made a crucial mistake. He left his face wide open, and it only took one punch from Khalidov to get Santiago's brain on channel 67. Every punch after that was just fo insurance, and the fight was stopped in fair time.

Mamed Khalidov definitely ready fo' the elite at 185. He improved his record to 20 and 3, and 19 of those victories he kept from the judges. Nine by (T)KO and ten by submission. Pretty dang impressive, and any fighter who finishes fights like that is bound to end up in a big organization challenging fo' the title.
