UFC 106 POST WAR!!! Daaaaaaannnnggg post war sounds so convenient after this one, because I was gettin so much shit leading up to it, I might as well have been in the bunkers. Now all that shit talkin has been rendered to a nice silence. That's how it always is after I call a card 5-0; 5-1; 4-0, but UFC 106 was the first time I've predicted a whole card and went 8-1-1. If I would have parlayed the Koscheck, Sadollah, Saunders, and Griffin fights with $20 I would have made close to $500 to put it in to pespective.
Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin The fight went exactly how I thought it would. Tito had a little extra power on the ground than last time he was in the cage, but that power was short lived because Tito's gas tank was out of commission.
Forrest owned the stand-up and even kicked Tito's mouthpiece across the octagon (as seen above) which will give the little guys in the MMA forums millions of Photoshop opportunities!
NOTES: Tito's 1 1/2 trick pony approach to fights has been figured out by MMA fighters, and Tito will be rendered to decision and split decision wins and losses unless he finds a mo' affective offense than the ground and pound. He's gonna have to revamp his stand-up in a way that's comfortable for him, and build on that if he hopes to be a contender fo' the 205 belt again.
Forrest Griffin did enough to win in this fight but didn't show enough to make anybody think he could take on the likes of Lyoto Machida, Rogerio Nogueira, Rashad Evans, oh even Shogun Rua. He will have to go back to camp take this as just one win, and build off of it. It's a plus that he ended his losing streak but he has a lot to work on if he wants that belt back.
Josh Koscheck vs Anthony Johnson EVERYBODY thought Johnson was takin' this fight! The fact of the matter is Koscheck has a lot mo' balls than people give him credit fo' and a lot better stan-up than people give him credit fo!
Proof he has balls: Stood with Anthony Johnson, a bigger/faster striker, in the middle of the octagon and slugged it out. Something MMA fans everywhere thought would be the last thing on his mind.
Took an illegal knee to the eye-socket, and returned to fight. Some fighters would have used that as a way out.
Josh Koscheck has said prior to his UFC 106 performance that he wants to fight 12 times in 2010! After the hardcore performance he put on Saturday night, I fuckin' believe that man 100%!!!
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs Luiz Cane I told you guys. The Nog' brothers have better striking than people give them credit fo'! I don't know if it's because they look like jiu jitsu guys so much that people think it's impossible fo' them to know boxing, oh if people just think they jiu jitsu guys. HEH!
Anyway man. Rogerio looked light on his feet, and very comfortable with his left. He was very patient in waiting fo' the deathblow and you would have NEVER known it was his first time in the octagon if it was yo' first time watching UFC. The guy was stone cold, and showed no nerves whatsoever.
Ben Saunders vs Marcus Davis Can anyone say "DAMN those knees is sick!?". Man did this dude have knees like that his whole career, or did he spend training camp in Thailand?
The accuracy, speed, and leverage he had on those knees would have knocked a Russian camel! I never heard knees with pop like that in the octagon. I don't even think Silva's knees on Franklins had pop like that.
If you ask me Ben Saunders and Dan Hardy would make a GREAT fight. I would like to see them two fight, and see Koscheck get a revenge match against Paulo Thiago in a little tournament that decides who fights GSP.
Judging by all the reactions I been getting about my comments on UFC 106 I can tell you one thing. Dana White was right, and I was wrong. Tito has enough nutwaxin, chode gargling, ass hair tickling nuthuggers than I could have imagined. And those people will help Tito carry this Pay Per View all by himself! WoW! These people is like diet Brock fans.
ToddMMA Predictions: George Sotiropoulos over Jason Dent Caol Uno over Fabricio Camoes (Unanimous Decision) Brock Larson over Brian foster Kendall Grove over Jake Rosholt (UD oh TKO) Ben Saunders over Macus Davis (Decision/Split) Amir Sadollah over Phil Baroni (Unanimous Decision) Rogerio Minotauro Nogueira over Luiz Cane (Submission) Paulo Thiago over Jacob Volkmann (Decision - Volkmann could get robbed) Forrest Griffin over Tito Ortiz (Ko oh TKO Rd 2)
I feel Kendall Grove's reach and height is gonna be too much fo Rosholt to adjust too. It's very hard to find a guy that can duplicate Grove in trainin. Rosholt had a tough time with Leben, and Leben's reach and takedown defense is not nearly as tough as Grove's. If grove on his game he gets the TKO. If not? The unanimous decision.
I'm going with Sadollah because I think he gonna make it out the first round. Phil Baroni is 4-9 when fights go longer than the first round, so if he gonna win this fight he better do it quick! But I don't see that happening I see Amir stickin and movin, and maybe even finishing Baroni in the 3rd depending on Baroni's gas tank.
Lil' Nogueira gonna prove to be too much fo' Cane. Cane hasn't faced anyone with the experience oh achievements of Minotauro Rogerio Nogueira. Lots of people don't look at this fight as so because the only fights they have in they memory bank is fights that happen in the UFC.
Both Paulo Thiago and Jacob Volkmann have great records. Both is extremely talented, but I have to go with Thiago fo the simple fact that he been mo dominant in his wins. With the exception of Fitch Paulo has cut down his competition quite literally. Volkmann could be a bad matchup fo' Paulo, but I see Thiago cage experience pullin him through to a decision. If fitch didn't finish Thiago I don't see the Volkenator doin it.
Now as fo Griffin vs Ortiz I believe I went over this pretty well in my video blog. Griffin comin off a huge loss, and that huge loss has fuled him throughout his whole trainin camp. Bottom line is Griffin is not the same Griffin that fought Tito the first time, and Tito can't do any worst than he did to Forrest the first time so I gotta go with Forrest by KO oh TKO in round 2!
As of about 15 minutes ago it's been reported Machida will face Shogun in they EXTREMELY, HIGHLY anticipated re-match. The news comes via Dan Wetzel's Twitter. He's a Yahoo sports writer that don't know shit about MMA, but he does kick it with Dana White so you can pretty much trust his ability to state facts when he says Dana White told him something. I won't bag on Wetzel too much right now fo' his MMA knowledge because it'll gimme somethin to write about in the future.
Seein' how the re-match goin' down May 1st it would nice to have it on Spike TV since we all got jipped out of a really good fight with a REALLY BAD decision, the first time. Seriously it's like dang man. We gotta pay two times fo the same dang fight?! Ay we didn't screw up the decision. Let Cecil Peoples and the other blind fucks pick up our tab man.
Anyways I won't bitch about that too long. Machida vs Shogun II really seems like it'll be the same fight all over again, and go to a decision unless someone lands a significant blow to the facial region, but that is highly unlikely. Who gonna win the decision? Anyone gotta coin?
Her we go. Fo' anybody wonderin' when my post UFC 105 video is gonna be up, wonder no longer. I already recorded it and just need to edit it. You might find yo'elf sayin "What the fuck you gonna do a Post UFC 105 blog, and video fo'!!!" I wouldn't blame you fo ponderin such, but some people like to read, and some people like to watch videos, and I ain't got shit to do this week so I workin on my vocab and writin stuff of the MMA kind.
Alexander Gustafsson: Alright enough of the Todd banter. I got two words fo you! Alexander Gustafsson! Man I know I picked Jared Hamman to win this, but I also knew goin' into it winner of this fight would be a certified, on the brink of elite, contender at the 205. Although it's way too early to tell, my hunch is 3-4 fights from now people gonna be havin Gustafsson avatars all up on they favorite MMA site. If you live anywhere near Sweden that's probably already the case. Gustafsson showed one thing I thought Hamman was gonna show, and that's the eye of the tiger with willingness to engage. VERY RARELY do you see that in a fighter's octagon debut! Well Gustafsson had it, and Gustafsson won, and anyone they match this dude up with next better not take him lightly own they gonna catch the pain.
Andre Winner: Andre seriously got some clean stand up and nice speed fo the MMA game. He looked like he was gettin' a little winded befo' he got the KO, but that can easily be fixed. I'd really like to see him get another fight with Pearson. I believe he could of won that previous fight, but shit just didn't go his way.
John Hathaway: Man England's coming up! Seriously the stable of fighters they providing is startin to resemble what Cuba is to Major League Baseball. OK maybe it's not on that level. I'm halfway through some caffeinated as coffee, gimme a break... No, but seriously. This dude gonna provide some problems at the welterweight division, and a GREAT matchup next would be "The Hitman" Hathaway vs Mike "Quick" Swick. That would be a nice addition to any card. Anyways, Hathaway improves to 12-0 with his win over Paul Taylor!
Mike Swick vs Dan Hardy: They was a combination of things goin on with this fight. A combination of Swick underestimating and Hardy preparing fo WAR! Man seriously. I don't care if you were Dan Hardy's neighbor yo whole life, did you really think he was gonna outstrike the Quickinator? I don't think anyone did, but he did, and made all England proud! That's OK England! You won the battle... but you'll never take our freedom!!! HEHEH! Michael Bisping vs Denis Kang: Michael Bisping came out lookin' good, until he got immediately floored. That's when things started lookin bad. He got dropped by a much smaller Denis Kang, and was forced to fight from his back. Where Denis Kang went wrong was not forcin Bisping to stand back up after he put his brain on channel 67. Instead he happily jumped into guard!?!? C'mon MAN! The whole reason Kang was winnin was because of the explosiveness of his hands. Now he wants to attempt a submission game?
But they ain't no rewind in real life, and Kang proceeded to make mistakes. Bisping recovered his equilibrium while on his back, and nulified any ground attacks Kang had to offer. Second round came about, and if you give a guy like Bisping enough chances he's eventually gonna kick yo' ass. I know everyone thinks he annoyin' etc, etc but he is still a pretty solid fighter. Anyways, Bisping won by second round TKO, ain't no mystery. You guys saw it, and I was completely wrong in that prediction!
Randy Couture vs Brandon Vera: Man I go over this in my video blog. I watched the updates of this fight live on Sherdog, and let me tell you. What I was readin, and what I eventually saw on video is as different as bat shit, and toaster struddles! Everyone gave this fight to Vera, so I just decided to watch to stay up to date, and be able to commentate on it.
In no way shape oh form should there be any controversy. Yes the judging system is flawed, but that's the system we have to go by and judging by that system Couture should have won this 30-27. Judging this by a PRIDE Fc scoring system, I would have given it 29-28 Couture.
In the UFC they have something called "octagon control". I don't like it, but it's there. I believe it should be replaced with "willingness to end a fight", but until the system is reformed we gotta deal with the rules put in place when Tito was champ, and those rules sure as shit favored his way of fighting.
Randy got dropped with a body kick. I know it, but other than that, and a few punches thrown by Vera from on top Randy won the rest of the round via "octagon control". In the 3rd round Vera landed some strikes, but no strikes went unanswered by Randy and I believe Vera even got rocked to the point where he smiled. That's when you know someone got rocked because they smile to kinda muffle the fact they brain got shook.
You know I'm not a Couture nutwaxer, and you know I'm not a Vera hater, but I definitely gotta give this fight to Randy. It wasn't too exciting with his "Hug n' Hold" game but he did what he had to do to win. Randy is a very similar fighter to Machida. They willing to deal with boring fights to get the win. It's not good from the fans perspective, but they thinkin' get the "W" get the fuck outta there.
I'm really not too excited about the next two UFC's. Honestly no one knows it yet but they gonna suck. Best card of the year so far was Strikeforce, and seein what's left of what UFC has to offer it's probably gonna stay that way.
Alexander Gustafsson vs Jared Hamman
Movin' on! The best part about this UFC 105 will most likely not air, or everybody will be makin nachos while these fights is takin' place. We got two risin' stars in the light heavy division makin they UFC debuts with Alexander Gustafsson (8-0), and Jared Hamman (10-1). These two guys is both really big 205ers with Gustaffson 6'5", and Hamman at 6'3". I haven't really seen too much of either of these fighters, but I am leaning towards Hamman in this fight. Hamman has had a tougher strength of schedule, and with a big win over Travis Wiuff I can't not go with him. Hamman second round TKO.
Andre Winner vs Rolando Delgado
Andre winner by stompage!
Paul Taylor vs John Hathaway
Alright we got two hometown dudes squarin off in this one with Paul Taylor, and John Hathaway! Paul Taylor a tough dude. I think he proved that to us all in the Chris Lytle fight where he was a pussy hair away from KO'n Lytle, but I got to go with Hathaway on this one.
I think Hathaway's height, and reach gonna play a big factor in this fight, and I think Hath gonna get the KO. If not a KO then a unanimous decision.
Michael Bisping vs Denis Kang
At first glance I thought Kang was gonna take this one easy, but after thinkin about it I think it's gonna be a real close fight either way it go.
After the brutal KO Bisping suffered I could see him coming out real apprehensive. Very similar to Akihiro Gono's fight last weekend at Sengoku '11th Battle' (Gono the opposite end of a huge headkick KO against Hornbuckle). It took Gono like 2min. befo' he even looked comfortable, but eventually got into the fight and pulled out a W.
If Kang is on to this then he should blitz Bisping ASAP at the starting bell of round 1. He need to go Randleman on this shit, because that will be the LAST thing Bisping wants. If Bisping is hesitant at all, with this type of strategy it will be a quick paycheck fo Kang, and a short night fo Bisping.
BUT I don't see Kang comin out blazing. I see him chippin away at Bisping little by little, and the longer he chip away the mo' comfortable Bisping is gonna get. AND once Bisping comfortable that's when he gonna return fire, and that's what's gonna make the fight close.
I know Bisping is the hometown favorite, and I know they is a GOOD chance of him getting a gift decision, but I'm goin' with Denis Kang. Split Decision!
Mike Swick vs Dan Hardy
Mike Swick hungry! Just like Kimbo, and just like Brett Rogers, but they is only one difference!!! (crickets) He gonna win this fight! Heheh!
Dan Hardy a tough mofo, but if he had trouble putting Marcus Davis away he gonna have a better chance of puttin Madonna's makeup away. They don't call Swick "The Quick" fo no reason. His speed is his best weapon, and his speed is gonna catch up with Hardy.
Mike Swick via TKO 2nd round.
Randy Couture vs Brandon Vera
Man don't you guys know!?!?!
Don't you guys know this is where Couture likes to be? Fights like this is the whole reason Couture is as big an MMA name as there can be (Aside from ample UFC marketing. HEH!). The whole reason Couture is the best 16-10 dude to ever live is because he wins fights when everybody has finally written him off. Couture vs Ortiz; Couture vs Liddell I; Couture vs Sylvia; Couture vs Gonzaga!
People always say "he gettin' too old", "he ain't winnin this fight", and what happens? The fuckin' guy wins. So with his history of winnin as the underdog, and Brandon Vera thinkin' the same way as everybody else who's written off Couture, I see Randy pullin' out a unanimous decision!
History gonna repeat itself in this fight because it gonna look like 'Couture vs Ortiz' except Vera playin the roll of Tito Ortiz.
After attending a post fight conference Saturday night, Fedor took a stroll down to the local hospital where it was confirmed he had a broken nose. He left wearing a soft cast, but doctors couldn't confirm if his hand was broken. He gonna need a second opinion on that.
I could tell you right now whether broken oh not, his hand gonna be jacked up for at least 8-12 weeks. Meanin' he won't be able to hit the bag at 100%, and train at full intensity fo' a minimum of 8 weeks. You might say, "Todd you ain't a Dr how you gonna know?" Man I broke my right hand twice, and sprained it once. Not to mention I jacked up my left hand once also.
Fedor's injuries, if not too bad, could be a blessing in disguise. It gives his body a chance to recover, and restart so when he does get back in there he'll be at 100%.
Anyone who watched the fight Saturday probably could tell Fedor wouldn't be returnin' anytime soon. Nearly 7 min. against a bear such as Brett Rogers would grind down anyone's body. Maybe seein' Fedor injured will help people to stop personifying Fedor as a super man, oh an MMA god because that kind of talk is only gonna jinx Fedor, and make the people guilty of such things mo' butthurt if he ever does lose.
Fedor not a robot, superman, god, oh a raelien (alien lizard person)! He a man... a bad ass man at that so let's treat him as so.
Revision: 11/13/09
Nevermind. Fedor just did an interview puttin the rumors to rest. He only suffered a cut, and a dislocated left thumb.
That's what I get fo' trustin Loretta Hunt. Next time Loretta I'm double checkin yo shit!!!
Ok here is the rankings MMAWeekly would like us to believe is the Top 10 MMA Heavyweights.
1. Fedor Emelianenko 2. Brock Lesnar 3. Frank Mir 4. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira 5. Cain Velasquez 6. Randy Couture 7. Junior Dos Santos 8. Brett Rogers 9. Shane Carwin 10. Fabricio Werdum
Ok now here is my TOP 10 Heavies list!
1. Fedor Emelianenko 31-1 2. Josh Barnett 24-5 3. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira 32-5 4. Brock Lesnar 4-1 5. Fabricio Werdum 13-4 6. Brett Rogers 10-1 7. Frank Mir 12-4 8. Aleksander Emelianenko 15-3 9. Andrei Arlovski 15-7 10. Junior Dos Santos 9-0
This is the REAL Top 10, and I know mo' people gonna agree with it than disagree. Isn't it funny how these websites keep Randy Couture on the top 10 heavyweights even though he movin to light heavyweight?
This is a COMPLETE contradiction when you look at the Middleweight rankings. Where is Gegard Mousasi in they middleweight rankings? He movin' up to 205, but he has enough wins at middleweight to be ranked. He is the DREAM Middleweight Grnd Prix Champion, and has wins over Melvin Manhoef, and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in the same night with a total "fight time" (I coined the word fight time. It means how much fight spent fighting in octagon oh a cage) of 2 1/2 minutes!
Anyway I also took off Shane Carwin, and Cain Velasquez because they too new to the scene and don't have enough wins over ranked fighters. I replaced them with Josh Barnett, and Andrei Arlovski. I'm guessing this website took off Josh Barnett because they holdin a grudge he busted fo' steroids? He got busted takin steroids. Doesn't mean he's the only one. You tell me Brock Lesnar has never 'roided it with a straight face. He only throws a tantrum every time he's asked a question about it.
And, who the hell OK'd Andrei Arlovski's deletion from the Top 10?!?! Oh man whoever said, "Yep, Arlovski needs to be taken off. He lost to Brett Rogers! We all know any heavyweights in the Top 10 who lose to NON UFC fighters are immediately banished." That person will look stupid next time Arlovski gets back in there.
Werdum gets mo' respect in my Top 10 because he has a better resume than the UFC nuthuggers might think. He has wins over Alistair Overeem, Aleksander Emelianenko, Brandon Vera, and TWO wins over Gabriel Gonzaga. The same Gabriel Gonzaga these nuthuggers thought would demolish Fedor after Gonzaga's KO of Cro Cop! The same Gonzaga that is held in such high regard on Couture's fight record, but then quickly he's fo'gotten when it comes to any other fighters record.
Brett Rogers goes from #8 to #6 on my list just out of sheer common sense. This guy might have bitched and moaned at the wrong time, but his performance against Fedor Emelianenko gained him points as a Top 10 heavyweight if you ask me! If you think his placing is too high just ask yo'self how he'd do against many of the heavyweights out there, and you'll find you'd probably pick him to win 60-70 percent of the time.
Junior Dos Santos only has 9 fights in his career, but his strength of schedule, and pure dominance keeps him in my Top 10. He the only fighter other than Fedor Emelianenko to defeat Mirko "Cro Cop" mentally in a fight. You know it... I know it, and Cro Cop know it. I'm a Cro Cop fan too (War Cro Crizzle!) but that doesn't mean I'm gonna hide shit.
Aleksander Emelianenko made my Top 10 because he's the only guy, who has the ability, in the world of MMA to KO Rogers, Lesnar, and Dos Santos OTHER than Fedor Emelianenko. And if you say "he hasn't faught in forever! He doesn't ave enough big wins!" No Shane Carwin hasn't faught in fo'ever, and Shane Carwin doesn't have enough big wins, but he's being nuthugged by everybody (i.e. MMAWeekly Top 10 HW) because they hope he's gonna beat Brock. Carwin's upcoming fight with Brock has gained him points befo' he even step into the octagon. Plain and simple.
Ok I think I highlighted everything anyone gonna make a fuss about in my new revised Top 10 MMA Hevyweights! Oh yeah. If you wonderin why Frank Mir is placed where he is just look at his record. One win over an injured Nogueira, and a noob Brock don't get you the 3 spot!
Alright can I just start off by sayin' this was a great card highlighted by dumb fucks with microphones, and wannabe MMA journalists? Correction. Dumb fucks with microphones shouldn't be plural, but Gus Johnson should bare the embarrassment of multiple dumb asses because I don't feel I could bag on him enough.
We got Crap Johnson not wasting anytime to qualify Fedor's punches as wild (apparently Gus doesn't get YouTube in his world of undeserving re-matches, and nearly perfect interviewing posture. That dude stiff as a frozen coatrack.) We got "Ass Camel" Johnson throwin a pitty party fo' Brett Rogers at the very second he's gettin' KO'd, and thank God Mauro Ranallo and Frank Shamrock muffled him out with screams of astonishment because if he said one mo' thing about tires at Sam's Club, and the projects I was gonna drop kick my laptop, and next day mail that dude a petrified cat turd!
Anyways, I will go on to fire-flame Kevin Iole of Yahoo fo' calling the card "lackluster" until Fedor took the cage (http://tinyurl.com/y97d5xh). This guy must have went on vacation befo' CBS Saturday Night fights, and wrote his article a day early because if this guy saw the fights takin' place he must of watched them with scuba gear on.
Gegard Mousasi diffused the "African Assassin", and beat him down out at his own game. Not to mention "Mayhem" was a pussy hair away from chokin' Shields out unconscious... may I carry on? Not to mention Werdum saved the fight and his ass by dominating the last to rounds of his fight with Antonio "Big Foot" Silva! Man how the hell do these commentators make money?!?! They're doing the fans an injustice and perpetuating the "noobdom" in MMA! Noobs read this shit, repeat it with 100% confidence, and boom! You got a dumb ass, accidental troll in an MMA forum!
Anyways the card overall was a 9 out of 10! I hear a lot of people talkin' bout production, but unless you a movie set designer I don't see how any of the MMA fans would really care. Fans is gettin' good fights from good fighters, that FINISH fights so that we don't have another main event fiasco! And on top of that it was free so if you left complainin' you on your own. Saturday Nov. 7th will go down in history as one of the greatest nights in the history of MMA!
Fabricio Werdum vs Antonio "Big Foot" Silva
I predicted this fight in favor of Silva, and fo' the first round I thought, "Todd, you nailed it!" Then I saw "Big Foot" huffin' and puffin' and slowly losin power and explosivity. At the same time Werdum was goin' Hulk Hogan on us and only gettin' mo' mad the longer the beatdown lasted.
Once Werdum withstood the eye of the storm it was all downhill, for "Big Foot" from there. With Silva's stamina compromised Fabricio's black belt took hold, and the rest is history. Close fight, but once Silva gassed his tank, the last two rounds was Werdum's fo the takin' and take he did!
Seems like Werdum's gonna be next in line fo Fedor, because Alistair Overeem didn't get the post-it that he's still Strikeforce's heavyweight champ, and needs to get his ass back to the states! All amongst a sport full of fans who gotta better chance of walkin' on the Moon than Overeem has of passin' a piss test!
Jason "Mayhem" Miller vs Jake Shields A.K.A "0 calorie Tito"
Man these is the fights I can't stand. You got a ground fighter holdin' position 'til the bell and a striker that can't wait to mix it up but can't get perpendicular to the ground. With all the lay n' pray action, that could have only been exciting fo Shields, Mayhem came the closest to finishing the fight in the second round where he was a mouse fart away from ending the fight with a rear-naked choke.
Another flaw in the rules I may say. In MMA no fighter should be saved by the bell. If a fighter has a finishing hold on his opponent where it's fo' sure the other fighter is in trouble, the round should go on until the fighter taps OH gets out of the submission!
But that was not the case Saturday night and Jake Shields won the belt with a performance that would make Tito Ortiz shed a tear.
Gegard Mousasi vs Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
I was really on top of this fight I have to say. I knew Sokoudjou was gonna cause problems fo' Mousasi, AKA "The Crazy Armenian", but as long as Mousasi didn't get too frustrated and kept his composure the fight would come to him, and Rameau was bound to make a mistake oh gas out.
The Mousasinator missed a kimura attempt in the first, but his unheard of patience fo' a 24 year old fighter allowed him to feast on a TKO in the second round and get his 14th straight win in a row bringin' his record to 27-2. Makin' him a solid candidate fo' fighter of the year.
Fedor Emelianenko vs Brett "The Lunch Ticket Collector" Rogers
A lot of people makin a big deal about Fedor gettin' cut on Rogers' first punch of the fight. I don't hear anyone mentioning that Fedor didn't even flinch, and followed that jab with a left hook that would have ended the fight if he would have stepped into it. Apparently these so-called "MMA enthusiasts" is mo' concerned with the gore than the technicality part of the sport. A man leavin' his face open to nearly be punched senseless is far mo' newsworthy than a cut on Fedor Emelianenko's face. A cut on the nose won't, and didn't stop the fight. A 280lb man leavin his chin open almost ended the fight in the first 20 seconds, and eventually was the doom of "the grim".
As you can see I can't stand these dudes who don't know they ass from a mailbox, and try to talk fighting. Fedor proved that he could take a better lickin' than most people thought. Shutting up the MMA fans who speculated Fedor had a glass jaw, fans that is about as innumerable as conspiracy theorists who think lizards from outer space run the government, but they still enough to mention.
Fedor proved he can, will, and did strike with a bigger stronger striker. Many MMA fans thought this would be an impossible feat with Brett Rogers in the cage. And then they is the fans who thought Fedor would not be able to adapt to the cage. All proven wrong in a little over 7 minutes of fight time!
Now I ain't nuhuggin'. I'm just statin the facts. I'm not sayin Fedor can't be beat, oh KO'd, but it's gonna take a LOT MO than what fighters and fans previously thought!
And what a better way to highlight a historical night in MMA history? Oh we just got Brett Rogers makin' shit up about how the fight will be different in a rematch, and how he should of let his hands go... basically telling the world he choked, and that he won't choke two times in a row. Thanks Brett. We knew you was scared during the weigh-in. No need to tack on empty words that only highlight yo' wounded pride, and embarrassment in front of yo' home crowd.
This is Todd Wentworth! Feel free to stay until the smoke clears, but this has been yo' "Post War" recap of CBS Saturday Night Fights "Fedor vs Rogers". I'm out!!!
What a GREAT weekend fo' Mixed Martial Arts. We had the best card of the year with Strikeforce's "Fedor vs Rogers" (on CBS fo free!), and Sengoku's '11th Battle' tearin' shit up at 2 in the mornin' US time!
Gotta give a shoutout to my friends at Justin.tv who was chattin with me in the wee hours of the mornin' while we watched Sengoku live. Those dudes is a crack up, and added a whole different element to online MMA!
Movin on! Sengoku's fight card on paper looked to be around a 6 oh 7 on a scale of 1-10, but the way they ref the fights in Japan you better come to fight oh take yo ass home. And that's what everybody did... fight! You think those dude's want a yellow card? Hello no! That's 10% of they purse (bread fo' the urban folk.)
Dave Herman vs Jim York
Dave Herman straight up came out lookin' like a wet noodle on the standup, and Mr York made him pay quick. The only thing Herman had going fo' him was his wrestling, and thanks to his lucky stars Jim York fell into that game via a couple stupid mistakes. Quick story short man, York tried to go fo a foot hold while Herman was on his back and ended up getting KO'd with heels to the face while tryin to aplly the maneuver. Really sucked because York was puttin down a beating on Herman.
On a side note Cecil Peoples immediately gave Herman a 10-8 round fo comin' out to Boy George, "Do You Really Wanna Hurt Me". HEHEH! Just kidding... about the Cecil Peoples part. Pee Wee really came out to that song, and was flamed in the chat... No pun intended.
Marlon Sandro vs Yuji Hoshino
Sandro got a VERY solid standup, and made quick work of Yoshino via K to the O! He improved his record to 15 and 1, and is a definite rising talent in the MMA game. Look fo' him to make big waves in the Featherweight division. Brazilian dudes with standup equal... next generation of MMA.
Akihiro Gono vs Yoon Young Kim
Young Kim's entrance was a Top Ramen fest! Serious. Dude was tossing out packets of microwavable Top Ramen to the crowd. I think he was really tryin to make an impression on the judges because Gono laid down a beating in his first fight since bein KO'd by Dan Hornbuckle.
Gono came out really hesitant, I should note. It really seemed like that KO was still on his mind, and it took like 2 minutes fo him to get warmed up. His entrance was also, non-extravagant which is unlike Akihiro, but he was all business in the ring. His post fight speech was in English too. Dude speaks English!
Stanislav Nedkov vs Kevin Randleman
This fight was a snooze fest in ways. Kevin Randleman has lost a lot of "explosivity", and Nedkov seemed to be fightin' not to lose. I gave Randleman the first round, but you could easily say Nedkov won the last to via "I lay on you long time until decision." Both fighters were givin' Yellow cards, and were threatened with Red cards. The threats did nothin fo' Nedkov's gas tank. That dude was gassed halfway through the second round.
Nedkov ended up takin a split decision. Nedkov is a fighter to look out fo, but his 8-0 record is very deceiving. I think any top 10 light heavyweight could get him within a round.
Jorge Masvidal vs Satoru Kitaoko
Kitaoko is a walking pokemon man! He was smiling all the way to the ring throughout his whole entrance. I never seen a fighter mo happy to go into a fight than this Kitaoko.
Seein' how he was so happy I think he really underestimated Masvidal because I havn't seen such a beating since Enson Inoue vs Igor Vovchanchyn. Watchin Satoru get beat down made me want to take an ibuprofen with some whiskey, and about 5min. of heavy breathing techniques!
Kitaoko is a trooper though. He took everything, the kitchen sink, and the laundry basket befo' Masvidal turned that smile upside down and got the KO in round two.
C'mon man! Jorge a former backyard brawler with Kimbo. If you gonna fight him you better submit him because you in fo' a fist fiesta if you don't!
Jorge went on to improve his record to 17 and 4 and is a force to be reckoned with in the lightweight division.
Jorge Santiago vs Mamed Khalidov
The fight everybody on live stream was waitin' fo!!! Man durin the couple snooze fests of Sengoku everybody took the time to elaborate on they anticipation of the Santiago, Khalidov fight. I won't lie. I called the fight fo' Khalidov via KO 2:32 sec into the first round. I was off by 14 sec, but that's cool. Got all the Justin.tv chatters as my witness.
Jorge Santiago came out looking good. He even got Khalidov to the ground, but Khalidov a big, strong, quick guy who's hard to keep on his back and it was the transition from the ground to the stand up where Santiago made a crucial mistake. He left his face wide open, and it only took one punch from Khalidov to get Santiago's brain on channel 67. Every punch after that was just fo insurance, and the fight was stopped in fair time.
Mamed Khalidov definitely ready fo' the elite at 185. He improved his record to 20 and 3, and 19 of those victories he kept from the judges. Nine by (T)KO and ten by submission. Pretty dang impressive, and any fighter who finishes fights like that is bound to end up in a big organization challenging fo' the title.
