UFC 149 if judged by $ signs will go down as one of the most memorable events in UFC history...
...if judged by the average MMA fan, with an IQ of more than 95, it will go down as 8 on a whiskey dick scale of 10! Anytime the judges spend just as much time in the spotlight as the fighters, it's gonna be a "back to the liquor store for another 30-pack" kinda night.
Hector Lombard vs Tim Boetsch
The much anticipated debut of Hector Lombard was muffled by a Split Decision loss to the Boetsch-inator. A fight that Lombard lost, more than Boetsch won. I say that because it seems Lombard was docked points, in the judges minds, for not fighting like the maniac that he is.
Though less caffeinated than previous fights, Hector did enough to win the fight, easily winning rounds 2 and 3. But that was not the case. The judges never fail to throw a beer cap in the toaster. They must have been listening to Joe Rogan's commentating. Joe obviously lost his boner for Hector after the first round.
Shawn Jordan vs Cheick Kongo
The massively hyped Shawn Jordan was scheduled to lay the KO down, by yours truely, but that wasn't the case as well. The bigger, longer reached Kongo, must have had cement toe-nail polish on because he was harder to take down than a constipated Sumo wrestler.
Much credit to the Kongo. He worked on his TD defense, and it proved to be a problem too big to solve, in the 15 minutes Shawn Jordan was given. The Unanimous Decision goes to Kongo, but I still got money Shawn would out-drink him!
Urijah Faber vs Regan Barao
Though you could see a decision coming more than a mile away, I seriously thought there would be more action. The rib injury Urijah suffered in the second is to blame for that one. With Regan being able to dictate the fight pace, after the injury, he could pop and move at will.
Some people had that fight going in favor of Faber, but I can't argue with the decision on this one. Just some bad luck for Urijah against a highly intelligent BJJ practioner. Good job Pegado!!
Now enjoy the UFC 149 Post Fight Press Conference!!!
